When you're pregnant, you get a lot of; "You shouldn't do that", and sometimes from your health care
provider, "I'm not sure we should do this right now." As the mechanics and dimensions of your body changes
in preparation for the delivery of a child, new stesses occur. Hormonal changes may "loosen" the ligamentous
integrity of various structures trying to deal with these new stresses, and you may be experiencing discomfort right now.
There
is no need to wait to feel better, just because you are pregnant. If your physician puts you on strict bedrest, thats
one thing, but frequently activity is encouraged. Studies demonstrate that women who remain active during their pregnancy
commonly have easier deliveries with less complications. They are at lower risk to develop gestational diabetes and
they are able to return to strenous activity sooner than sedentary women.
Whether you are having back pain, hip
pain or pain with walking or other activities Pinnacle PT may be able to help. We work closely with your physician to
develop a personalized program geared to your needs. A program that changes as your pregnancy advances. After
the delivery, we can help you get back in shape for whatever you desire, if you need it. We even provide the childcare
during your appointments.
Of course we understand that specific women's needs go beyond just the time when a
woman may be pregnant. Young women athletes mature differently than their male counterparts. They develop mature
muscle mass sooner than males do, but the developmental and morphologic changes of the female adolescent frequently have
a more radical change in center of balance that may put adolescent female athletes at greater risk for certain kinds of injuries.
As womens bodies continue to mature, the relative muscle mass to body fat ratios are different for men and women.
While these differences may be obvious to many, how they influence energy production, storage and utilization may not be.
Why are women more prone to certain kinds of injuries, while males usually experience different injuries?
As women continue to mature, they continue to have greater risk factors for osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal
and physiologic issues. Many of these can be managed to a greater or lesser degree with proper attention to a physical
program designed to meet a woman's needs. Not everyone is the same, and you don't deserve to be treated like
everyone else. Let Pinnacle PT meet your specific rehab needs.
