Your doctor has told you all the detrimental health concerns connected to being overweight.  You have tried a dozen different fad diets and maybe lost some weight, but it always comes back.  Newer research may indicate that dieting may condition your body AGAINST losing weight.  Certainly, there are "smarter" ways to eat and different strategies for reducing the volume of food you eat, without being on a diet.  While not always easy, the weight loss solution is simple.

When all is said and done, there is one underlying formula that ultimately determines whether you are gaining or losing weight.  Calories in vs. calories out.  There are a couple of variations on the theme, but in it's purest form, if you take in more calories than you burn off, you will store the excess somewhere.  On the other hand, if you burn off more than you take in, the difference has to come from the excess storage you have accummulated.  Here's where people make the biggest mistake.  They spend all their effort, time and money on the first part of the equation, the "calories in" part.  There are hundreds of diet plans, diet pills, even surgeries these days, designed to limit the "calories in", part of the equation.  While no one would argue that portion control is important, starving yourself doesn't work and neither do most diets.  Far and away the more important part of the equation is the "calories out" side.  Yet for a variety of reasons this is usually ignored or given very little attention and this is why we fail.

Drastically reducing food intake, puts your body into "starvation" mode.  Metabolism drops to conserve energy consumption and your body wants to create a higher set point weight, so that you will have more reserves available during the next drought.  Fad diets frequently are not balanced enough be able to maintain adequate nutritional support over a long period of time.  That is what we are talking about aren't we?  The rest of your life, not just the next month or two.

Here are just a few of the reasons why burning more calories up, rather than limiting the calories in, is so much more important.  The more active you are, the higher your resting metabolism.  Metabolism rates that are higher mean that you burn more calories during the day and even while you are SLEEPING compared to a lower metabolic rate.  You get the benefits of exercise even when you are not exercising!  If you build muscle, even beneath a layer of fat, your body needs to burn more calories to maintain muscle mass than it does to maintain fat.  The more you do, the more energy you have, compared to starving yourself which usually saps your energy.  The more energy you have, the more you are likely to do, which again burns more calories and makes you stronger.

There are some metabolic disorders alive in the world.  Fortunately these are relative medical rarities.  This is not the 60% of the population which is considered medically overwieght.  This is not a quick fix, this is a lifestyle change.  When you are ready to make that change, we are here to show you how.  Whether you need some structured time to get you started, or just some ideas on how to change your life, we are here for you when you are ready to make a change.
