Getting in shape is maybe the most common New Year's resolution that people make. But getting in shape means
different things for different people. For many of us, "getting in shape" means losing a few pounds for that
wedding that's coming up, or for the start of swimsuit season. But for others, getting in shape is putting on a
few pounds, adding a little muscle definition or redistributing some dimensions without actually losing weight. Sometimes
it means preparing for your first triathalon or taking a few strokes off your golf game. Getting in shape may be as
simple as being able to walk through the mall again without needing to stop and rest every 5 minutes. Sometimes it is
a little more complicated than that. You may have an active lifestyle and a usual workout routine. You
may normally feel confident in your abilities and self image, but you just had knee surgery and now you don't want to
screw it up. You're not sure what you could or should be doing and how much. As practicing physical therapists
we are intimately aware of physical restrictions, risks or precautions following various surgeries or procedures. You
can find a personal trainer at any gym in town, what you won't find there is the knowledge base to understand how your
risk factors for injury have changed with a surgical intervention. If you are concerned about it, and you should be,
don't take unnecessary chances. See a physical therapist at Pinnacle.
